In the last article I mentioned that there are websites such as http://freewebsite.us that give you resources on places to build your own website. I discussed a few reasons why it may not be the best idea to build your website yourself, without the help of a web developer by your side.

However, there are also a few reasons that people opt to go in that direction.

They may be self explanatory, but we will dive into them anyway.

First off, it saves you money to use a free site builder, versus hiring a web designer. However, keep in mind that your website still needs to be hosted. So you are not being charged a hosting fee, then there is some kind of membership fee, its never entirely free. And even at that, you will not get the level of controllability that you would if you purchased you own hosting.

Another reason is that you do not have to know any coding in order to make any changes to you website. Most website building software gives you a control panel that you log into to easily make changes. However, software that web designers use, such as wordpress, that we wordpress developers use, gives you the same functionality and gives you more control over what you are allowed to change.

It’s convenient. You do not have to go searching around for the perfect web designer. You can do it in your own time, by yourself and in the comfort of your own home. But, there is a learning curve, so you will have to set some designated time aside to learn your new software and how to create it the way you want it to look. If your not too tech savvy, it may take a little longer than you hope, so give yourself enough time.
